Each registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a specific website hosting company. That way, you have got both your site and your e-mails managed by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the site for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, whenever you enter a domain name in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you may be directed to the servers of a different provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having separate records for the website and the emails suggests that you can have your website and your e-mails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a Linux shared hosting package from our company, you'll be able to see, create and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. So long as a particular domain has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify particular records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or emails pointed to another service provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool will even allow you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain in any way. If you choose to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with just a few clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You can also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domain names or subdomains is very easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you may click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you won't encounter any issues if you decide to direct your website or e-mails to another service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If necessary, you can also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority depending on the recommendations of the new provider.
